Project Profile: 24/7 Dink

We recently wrapped up an exciting project with 24/7 Dink, a new indoor pickleball facility located in Fishers, Indiana. This project involved the installation of 20 cushioned indoor pickleball courts across a massive 40,000-square-foot facility. We’re proud of the result—not just in terms of performance and aesthetics but also in how the surface will support players for years to come.

Project Scope & Timeline

The full scope of the surfacing portion took four weeks from start to finish. Prior to our arrival, the general contractor coordinated with a concrete company to grind and level the existing floor. The facility was previously a Marsh Supermarket for over 30 years, so the concrete needed extensive preparation to meet the standards required for athletic performance flooring.

Concrete Considerations

Since the space is indoor and climate-controlled, and the existing slab has been in place for three decades, we had minimal concern about future cracking. If this had been a new outdoor build, we would have strongly recommended a post-tension concrete slab to manage expansion and prevent cracks over time.

As part of our prep work, we also filled all expansion joints in the slab to ensure a smooth, even playing surface and eliminate any potential weak points under the sport surfacing. This step is crucial in helping to maintain the integrity of the finished floor over time.

Surface Selection

After consulting with the client and weighing the options based on cost, longevity, and player experience, we decided on a 4mm cushioned rubber mat system. This surface offers an 18% force reduction, significantly improving joint comfort for players without compromising ball response or playability. It’s a perfect balance of performance and protection—key for any facility aiming to attract players of all levels.
